The Last Radio Broadcast

What if the last man on earth was a conservative radio talk show host rather than a noble scientist a la Robert Neville (Will Smith) in the 2007 smash I Am Legend? That is the narrative starting point for Hive Mind, a circa 2036 independent science-fiction film by Alabama moviemaker Ladd Ehlinger Jr. that premieres locally in Huntsville tonight, Friday, April 23rd.

The zombies being battled in this case are of a more figurative variety, co-opted by a titular, implanted telepathic cell phone technology that radio host Doug Trench (Greg Trent) sets out to battle one last time via bunkered airwaves. Writer-director Ehlinger himself hosts a weekday radio show on local stations WTKI/WEKI and previously made the critically acclaimed sci-fi feature The Flatland, adapted from an 1884 novel by Edwin A. Abbott.
