New Zealand Short Set to Surface in Aspen

Last month, the hilarious CGI live action short Das Tub was a finalist at the 9th Annual Visual Effects Society Awards. Though it lost in the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Student Project category to Loom, it was still a high point for the institution that produced it, the Media Design School in Auckland, New Zealand. Especially since another one of the school's efforts, Time for Change, was also nominated in the same category.

Now comes another U.S. honor for Das Tub. The short will screen April 5th as part of Aspen Shortsfest 2011, in that day's Competition Program Two segment. Watch it here:

Das Tub co-stars and was written by Nick Ward, whose credits include Stick Men and Second Hand Wedding. The director, James Cunningham, also happens to be the school's 3D course leader. There's no doubt that the short will find further success stateside at it is discovered by festivals. It's a guaranteed crowd pleaser, with a killer final line of dialogue.
