Girlfriend's Google Doodle Compels Filmmaker to Complete Civil Rights Era Documentary
Earlier this year, Boston artist Ekua Holmes created the Google Doodle displayed on January 19th across the U.S. for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Like Ava Duvernay's recent film, the illustration was anchored to the famous march across Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma.

Taking a Gander at a Forgotten Crossroads
In 2002, veteran reporter Jim DeFede published The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland. The book examined how residents of the small Canadian town welcomed with open arms some 6,700 airline passengers diverted to their airport by the events of 9/11.

A Coen Brothers Character and Minnesota Film Legend
In 1970, Al Milgrom was teaching film history at the University of Minnesota. Next weekend at the Flyway Film Festival in Pepin, Wisconsin, he will be in attendance for an October 23rd screening of his documentary about some events that occurred near campus that same year.
