An Iranian Diaspora

In 2013, the Cyrus Cylinder, a 6th century B.C. Middle Eastern relic often referred to as "the first declaration of human rights," toured the U.S. This weekend, a collection of shorts inspired by the traveling American exhibit will premiere at the Eastern Breeze International Film Festival in Toronto.

'Birling' Doc Comes to Bend

Between 1960 and 1972, four teenage girls from Lewiston, Idaho claimed 11 logrolling titles at the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward, Wisconsin. Their exploits are the subject of the documentary Queens of the Roleo, which is set to debut May 14th in director Dave Jones' hometown of Bend, Oregon.

Pauline Kael's Repertory Cinema Days

With a few exceptions here and there, the American repertory cinema has gone the way of Netflix, Hulu and VOD. However, for a few brief moments this coming Friday night at the San Francisco International Film Festival, a roomful of folks will be magically transported back to some 1950s-era repertory halcyon days at 2436 Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley.

A Luminous and Daring Trapeze Act

In Hollywood, Philip Weyland is best known for his association with William Shatner. The two are friends, and over the years, Weyland has worked on various film and TV projects as Shatner's stand-in and dialogue coach. He's also done stunts and some other film work.
