A Turbo-Charged Cannes Short

Life is full of unlikely personal trajectories. Case in point: UK Polish immigrant Wojiek Aniola, whose 1980-to-1983 drummer days in his homeland with heavy metal band Turbo have given way to becoming the first public transit driver of Polish descent in Warrington in 2005 and now, as such, star of 2010 Cannes Independent Film Festival (CIFF) short entry Far from Home.

The low-key ten-minute black and white profile was actually completed in 2007 under the title Pole to Pole by then-20-year-old Priestley College student Pete Regan, who read about Aniola in the local newspaper. Ahead of the May 22nd Cannes screening, Regan hopes to be able to defray some of the costs of his trip to the south of France by means of a fundraising screening in partnership with local arts program Creative Remedies. Aniola was on board with Turbo during the time of the band's best-remembered song, the 1982 title track "Grown Up Children".
