On Monday, May 3rd, documentary filmmaker Susan Saladoff sat down in Charlottesville, VA for a last-minute, late addition chat with bestselling author John Grisham. Although her project, Hot Coffee, takes its name from the infamous case of an Albuquerque woman who sued McDonald's after spilling a cup of scalding drive-through coffee, the film encompasses much more for its take of how large U.S. corporations have distorted the true facts about such seemingly frivolous lawsuits.
Long-time practicing attorney Saladoff racked up more than 60 hours of footage for the film, speaking to everyone from former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Ernest “Sonny” Hornsby to D.C. public interest law firm attorney Paul Bland. She has also aligned herself with an impressive pair of producers, Alan Oxman (Control Room, the Academy Award nominated Children Underground) and Carly Hugo (founding partner of The Group Entertainment).
