Documentary Shines a Light on Unsolved Milwaukee Murder

Five years later, the horrific October 2009 murder of Milwaukee 19-year-old Ashleigh Love remains unsolved.

Tonight, at the Marcus Majestic in Brookfield, Wisconsin, family friend Kyle Olson will premiere his short documentary Letters to Ashleigh. The movie takes its title from the fact that strangers across the United States started sending posthumous letters to the victim's family.

Those letters remained unopened for years. But for Olson's short doc, her mom finally read them. Together with Olson, she hopes that the renewed attention on the case can help lead investigators, finally, to a possible motive and suspect(s).

On the film's website, there is a template for people to send an electronic letter. Olson himself got a nice letter this week from U.S. Senator Ron Johnson, who cannot attend tonight's premiere but expressed his wishes that the case will soon be solved.

Olson, who divides his time between Wisconsin and Southern California, has worked on a host of TV shows including Glee, Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelorette. For this personal project, he got some sponsorship help from Jim Shoulak, a local and longtime Christian singer-songwriter whose compositions include "I'm a Catholic!"
