When it came time in 2007 for L.A.-based independent filmmaker Michael Bauch to take a one-month summer vacation with his wife and son, he chose to exchange homes with a family in Amsterdam, where an astonishing one-third of all travel within the city is made by bicycle. Three years and 35 hours of raw footage later, Bauch is set to premiere his celebratory documentary Riding Bikes with the Dutch on May 9th at the Long Beach Bicycle Film Festival.
Besides being an avid cyclist and fan of a metropolis that is the epitome of an active transportation model, Bauch is also a seasoned world traveler who has worked extensively for the History Channel as well as the American Film Institute and various non-profits. The music featured in Riding Bikes with the Dutch was provided by Diego's Umbrella, San Francisco's self-proclaimed Ambassadors of Gypsy Pirate Polka.
