Super 8, Still Great

In these DIY, digital times, it seems almost preposterous to think that there are those who prefer to work with the previously cheap alternative of Super 8 millimeter film stock. But that is indeed the case, as confirmed by the fourth annual Cambridge International Super 8 Film Festival, taking place April 22nd through May 1st on the campuses of Murray Edwards College and Anglia Ruskin University.

More than 70 short films will be showcased during the event, one of a number that each year fly the Super 8 flag, including a special sidebar program of work from UK experimental filmmaker Ian Helliwell. Tim Burton, who now calls Great Britain home, was once a teenage Super 8 artiste, while others who have been known to dabble in the medium right up to the present day include Oliver Stone and Edgar Wright.
